Our Maeby

Maeby is seven years young, and currently an only fur-child. I had been nagging my boyfriend (now my hubby) that his dog needed a companion because she was getting older and seemed lonely. A friend on Facebook said she found two dogs abandoned on the side of the road while on a day-trip outside the city somewhere. The puppy was the most perfect, sweet-faced, little pot-bellied, golden retriever baby. I knew from the moment I saw her on that Facebook post, that I had to have her. I discussed it with my parents (who I lived with at the time) and boyfriend (hubby)--my parents made it clear that they would not be financially responsible or end up cleaning up after her or any of her other many needs. I had just graduated from college, and was pretty much living at my boyfriend's (hubby's) house. My hubby agreed that he would care for her with me, and thus, our journey with Maeby began.

I went to meet her and instantly fell in love. She had the sweetest demeanor and happy-go-lucky attitude. I brought along an old bed we had from the cat that was no bigger than a foot in diameter. She sat contently in the front seat next to me as we drove home. She had fleas, as most puppies do. I still remember giving her her first bath in the sink with gentle oatmeal flea treatment shampoo. We snuggled her dry in a fluffy towel. We were all smitten. My family and I snuggled her and loved on her all the rest of the evening. I remember the first few nights with her: she slept in the kitty cage (with a soft bed and her new stuffed toy) next to my bed propped up on a chair so that she could see me and not be scared. She whined and cried ALL night long (for about a week). I would shush her and try to get her to stop by sticking my fingers through the grate to soothe her--still she didn't shut up...lol.

I don't exactly remember her potty-training, but she seemed to follow every move of my mom and dad's golden retriever and black lab and learned by imitating  them. Getting her to use the doggie door was adorable, and by the end of her first month with them, she was going in and out with ease.

She had her first vet appointment during her first month with us, and we found out she had tape worms, so we had to give her medicine for that. It is apparently easily transmissible to other dogs by fecal matter, so she and I basically slept out on the enclosed patio together for a few days. So I could easily follow her and pick up the contaminated poo. Also, to know when her poo had no more signs of worms. :[

My hubby admitted, he knew he wanted to let me adopt her, because he was about to propose to me a month later.

This is pretty much how she's been since we picked her up that day <3
Sweet sleepy baby!

Bella watched over Maeby like her own baby girl! :,(
